Just got pics of Rachael and Matthew’s wedding up at Kurrajong, it was very nice wedding and the lunch time reception was an awesome idea.
It was great seeing Vanessa and Alexis again they were great company (along with Vanessa’s fiance also called Andrew) and meeting some of Matthews friends.
Well well it’s been an interesting week. The biggest news has been that Dana came to town for a few days and Andy’s bike almost left town!
The first thing that really happened was Andy’s computer broke down and he spent all week trying to fix it. That was purely self inflicted though (trying to install a new hard drive and switch cases at the same time). Then one morning he realised somebody had tried to steal his bike (damaging it in the process) and this was after finding out his tool kit was stolen from the back of his bike the previous week. Andy’s fixed both the computer and his bike, he’s attached an alarm to it so hopefully we should hear it go off if anybody touches it and hopefully this streak of bad luck has ended now!
Dana arrived on Friday morning so both me and Andy took the opportunity to take a day off. She arrived with yummy cookies and pressies too, thanks Nigel for the cyberman clock and sonic screwdriver, Andy said they’ll totally come in handy next time alien pigs attack local monuments.
So we hung out at towers and then later that night me, Andy and Andrea took Dana to a rather interesting show called "Busting Out" at the Factory Theatre in Enmore so we had dinner at a nearby Asian restaurant. On Saturday me and Dana did a bit of shopping at Hornsby while Andy was fixing his bike, poor guy. Later that night we went to my parents house for dinner.
On Sunday Andy was still fixing his bike so me and Dana took the train into the city and went to the Mind Body Spirit Festival at the Exhibition Centre in Darling Harbour where we went to all the stalls and must have drank half our body weight in sample teas. On Sunday night after fish and chips for dinner we dropped Dana off at my parents place so that she and my mum could hang out on Monday before driving her to the airport.
All in all it was a lovely weekend, thanks Dana for coming all the way to Sydney and visiting us, next to visit we hope is Joanne and Wayne, Nigel or Rod when he’s well enough and Isabella’s always welcome, parents/guardians optional :p
First things, first, there’s a new poll out, be sure to vote on the sidepanel ->
For those of you who have noticed the missing whiteboard, basically it got spammed after upgrading, we can put the old one back if anybody thinks they’d use it but you can comment on each individual post. Let us know.
We spent SriLankan New Years with the extended family, pics are below.
Our memory doesn’t extend beyond the previous week so last week we had the usual Tuesday night dinner with Andrea and Rhyl at the Inn, last night we helped Annabelle brush up on her pool skills before sending her on a dangerous ride home on the train and tomorrow night we’ll be doing steak night at the Fernando house. Got the motorbike repaired (with the bike repair kit stolen out of its locked compartment) and the car got serviced and its brake pads replaced so we can start getting out again.
Hey hey, we were totally busy over the long weekend building a DVD cabinet, ok well Andy did all the building but I brought him drinks and I did the first coat of paint. Anyway we finished properly tonight, here are some pics:
We’re still filling it up but it’s starting to take shape.
I think it looks pretty nice and the paint matches the pool table quite well. Nice job Andy.

Day 3 was all about the relaxing, we spent some time hanging out at the pool, playing chess and table tennis and in the evening we all sat around the balcony area and had some wine and a chat. I tried horse riding while Andy did who knows what. Unfortunately the guy me Amila, Khris and Malisha went canooeing with last trip wasn’t around this year.
Day 4 was our last day at our favourite hotel. Heritance Kandalama was by far the best hotel we’d been to, it was beautifully designed, the service was exceptional and the food was exquisite. We drove to the nearby Dambulla cave temple ruins and hung out with the monkeys while we looked at ancient carvings of Bhuddas commisioned by various kings of the past. When we got back to the hotel we relaxed and then went on an elephant ride through the nearby lake. The pictures say it all. That night was another awesome buffet dinner, highlights include Andy wearing his stylish sarong.
Day 2 was a lovely day, we hung out at Kandalama during the morning and in the afternoon we set out to Sigiriya Rock also known as Lion Rock which we climbed . It’s supposedly 1000 steps to the top so me and Andy must’ve done 999. It was pretty tiring but well worth the views, on top and all around the rock are the ruins of an ancient palace complex, built during the reign of King Kasyapa (477 – 495 AD) and it is one of the 7 World Heritage Sites.Â
The history of Sigiriya Rock Fortress: King Kasyapa murdered his father King Dhatusena by walling him alive and then usurping the throne which rightfully belonged to his brother Mogallana. Mogallana fled to India to escape being assassinated by Kasyapa but vowed revenge. In India he raised an army with the intention of returning and retaking the throne of Sri Lanka which was rightfully his. Knowing the inevitable return of Mogallana, Kasyapa is said to have built his palace on the summit of Sigiriya as a fortress and pleasure palace. Mogallana finally arrived and declared war. During the battle Kasyapa’s armies abandoned him and he committed suicide by falling on his sword.
